RestOrTrain is now on Android

By the RestOrTrain team

RestOrTrain is now available on Google Play. Our AI cycling coach brings your training history into the conversation, so you can ask about a ride or change your plan from your Android phone.

We are the team behind RestOrTrain. We built it for the questions that come after looking at your numbers: what did that ride tell me, and what should I do next?

Start with the ride you just finished

Connect the account that holds your rides, such as Garmin, Wahoo, Hammerhead, COROS or Intervals.icu. Then ask about a session you remember well. For example:

"Look at yesterday's ride. Where did I struggle, and what should I work on?"

The coach uses the training data you have connected. You can add what the ride file misses: the headwind, an unplanned stop or how your legs felt.

Check its answer against the ride. If the activity is missing or a detail is wrong, say so before asking it to plan your week. AI can make mistakes.

Tell it when your week changes

A late meeting takes away Thursday's ride. Saturday is still free, but you only have an hour on Sunday. Tell the coach:

"I cannot ride on Thursday. Keep Saturday's long ride and give me an hour on Sunday. Adjust the rest of this week."

RestOrTrain can change the sessions on your calendar and explain what it changed. Your plan does not move by itself. You ask for the change.

If you want to see an example, our guide to changing your training around real life follows a missed session through to a revised week.

Put the workout on your bike computer

A session should be ready when you go riding.

RestOrTrain can send planned workouts to connected platforms, including Garmin, Wahoo, Hammerhead and COROS. You make the plan on your Android phone, then follow the session on a compatible bike computer or watch after it syncs.

The devices handle workouts differently. Our workout delivery guide explains the targets each supports and when sessions arrive.

Set up RestOrTrain on Android

  1. Install RestOrTrain from Google Play and sign in or create an account.
  2. Connect your training account during setup, or later under Settings, then Data Sync. Give it the permissions needed to bring in your rides.
  3. Check that your recent activities have arrived. Start with a question about a ride you know well.
  4. Tell the coach your goal and the days you can ride. Ask it to plan the coming week around them.

For regular use of the coaching features described here, expect to need a Pro subscription. Check the offer in the app for the current price, any trial and its renewal terms before subscribing.

Frequently asked questions

Does RestOrTrain work with Garmin and Intervals.icu on Android?

Yes. You can connect either account to bring training data into RestOrTrain and send planned workouts back. For Garmin, the bike computer or watch picks up the session when it syncs with Garmin Connect.

Is RestOrTrain free?

A few questions a month are free.

Can RestOrTrain import my rides from Strava?

No. Connect the platform that records your rides directly, such as Garmin or Wahoo.

Is there a browser version?

No. RestOrTrain is a phone app for Android and iPhone. If you want to manage your training entirely in a browser, it will not fit that need.

Our Strava page explains why ride imports stopped and how to connect your recording platform.
